It is really raining outside today. They have actually closed all schools and kindys across the city. At the moment we are having a lovely time listening to the rain and playing dressups inside. But it is only a matter of time before all this rain brings out the crazy in these kids.
The weather forecast tells me that I am staring down the barrel of two-ish days cooped up indoors. So, in the nature of being prepared, I have scoured the web to see what other mums are doing to keep their kids occupied during rainy times.
Here is my round up of top rainy day activities to keep the kids at bay:
Rainbow Bathtub Foam – 2 Tbsp of dish soap, 1/4 cup of water, some food colouring and a mixer. SO easy, so bubbly. I cant believe we haven’t tried this one already.
Babe in a Box – Give you babe an empty box and a bunch of crayons and put them to work.
Bubble Wrap Stomp Painting – Story is so obsessed with painting her feet. No matter where the painting starts, it always ends with a trail of colourful foot prints throughout the house. Bubble wrap stomp painting is bound to be a hit, and I like the idea of taking some of the mess out of the clean up.
Play Room Colour Hunt – Label some bags with colour tags and send them off on a treasure hunt.
Fairy Puddles – Whenever it rains we always take the opportunity to throw on our gumboots and go stomping in muddy puddles. The kids LOVE it so much, and it is good to see them out of the house and getting all one with nature. Turning puddles into glittery, colourful fairy puddles is such a great idea. Sto would go nuts for this, and anything Sto loves Roamy loves too. I know what we are going to be doing as soon as the rain eases!
D.I.Y Paper and Block Puzzle – Grab some butchers paper and some of the kids favourite toys and make an oversized floor puzzle.
This should keep us going for the next couple of days.
